I want our litter of puppies to go to the best homes possible where they will be cared for in a loving, kind, intelligent way and have all their needs met. These pups are really great miniature pinschers that I want to be loved pets and show/agility dogs - they have the potential.

I don’t want them to go to idiots who just want an expensive dog because even if someone can pay, it doesn’t mean they know how to train a dog, how to care for a dogs emotional/physical needs, or if they are dedicated to the dog for life, for better or worse. I know that I’m going to come across as overbearing and insane when I interview potential new owners and I don’t really care, but my family thinks once the pups are out our door it is, and I quote, “none of our business.” I believe it is because we brought the pups into this world and we are responsible for them for their entire lives - and for the potential quality of that life and as such there is no such thing as Too Far…
It took us 5 years just to find the parents, raise them, and get them ready for breeding. This is the one and ONLY litter we will ever have and have ever had. By “none of our business” I mean my family doesn’t want me to ask ANY questions, they just can’t wait to get their hands on the money. I allowed the breeding for love of the dogs - but now I see so clearly that if I had really loved these animals I would never have bred them in the first place!

By idiot I mean people who rub pups noses in their mess, don’t understand that a puppy is a PUPPY, will neglect the dog, not socialize it, ect - I would rather give these pups to people with low income who will treat these dogs as companions than sell them to rich people who could care less for them and only want a “cute puppy” for their two year old kids - which looks like where most of them will go if I don’t do something. I just want owners who will be honest, good, and maybe send a x-mas card with pics!

My 13-year-old sister is going to camp for a few weeks. I’m sending a care package and have a few ideas (magazines, temporary tattoos, disposable camera, travel-size lotion that she loves). Any other ideas? I’d like to make something, but what travels well? Last year I sent Puppy Chow (chocolate-peanut butter chex mix) and sugar cookies, but I’d like to mix it up a bit…

Ok, first off I know that having this puppy at this age is wrong, and it should be with its mother, but due to circumstances beyond MY control Its not. Thats where you all come in. I want to know how to properly raise this puppy to the best of my ability.

I’ve read you should feed a puppy this young about 4-5 times a day. Im curious as to what exactly I should be feeding it and how much of it I should. We’ve been feeding it Pedigree Little Champions, and hes been drinking water.I also have 3 other dogs: a 6 year old Lab, 4 year old Chihuahua, and 3 year old Chihuahua. Is it ok if these dogs are around the puppy? Supervised of course. They seems to know its a puppy and not bother it. And my last question is about whining. I know at this age there is nothing you can do about it, but I just want to know how I should respond to it. If it starts whining should I immediately come to it or what?
Also, I have been reading to keep it in a crate? Should I do this? Currently he is sleeping in my room next to my bed on a cushion with a blanket and stuffed animal to keep him company and warm.

Okay. Here’s the thing. My new puppy, Trixie, has a house training problem. I usually carry her to the front door (I take her out to the front yard to go to the bathroom) but I need to set her down to open it. Our door is horrible, and not even my parents can get it open without using both hands. When I put her down she runs off and pees. I sometimes catch her before she does anything, but other times when she gets away with it, how should I discipline her?

My father says that I shouldn’t give her any kind of attention, to ignore her, but she still does it! I’ve had her for about three weeks now, and she’s kept doing it. I praise her when she does it outside, but I don’t think that Trixie knows the difference.

I don’t know how to stop her from nibbling on my ankles or hands either. When we play she usually goes too far, and then I would flick her nose, but then she continues. I’ve tried using a chew toy, but then she goes for my fingers again. Trixie’s a huge finger and ankle biter. >.<

I also don't know when to stop feeding her. I saw on TV that I shouldn't feed her after some point in the evening to prevent her from peeing in the house, but I forgot what time. I hope that someone knows!

Can you help me please? I want Trixie to turn into a well behaved dog!
I'm thirteen, and we live in TX. It's very hot, and she's a black haired dog.
XD I've had her for three weeks because she was close to death. Her mother isn't around anymore. We took her to the vet and she was healthy, so we kept her. We have puppy milk, so don't worry about that.

Thanks for the answers so far!

Two days ago “Dasher” suddenly stopped eating and became very lethargic with some vomiting (clear). Went to the Vet, he said Dasher had parvo (without any test). He gave him a shot of antibiotics and a shot to boost his immune system. Have been giving him 70cc of pedialyte orally every couple hours via syringe.

Yesterday, I noticed a round worm in his fecal matter (diarrhea - no blood). I gave him a de-wormer (early wormer).

This morning he began vomiting again, will not hold down any fluids. Still lethargic.

I have pills the Vet gave me (reglan) to stop the vomiting but am not sure whether to give it to him because of the worms.

I just got a puppy yesterday. It just turned 4 weeks old today? It is a small breed and the mother had 5 puppies and they were “eating her alive”. So the owners had to get rid of the puppies. I don’t really know what to feed it and most of all how do I make it go to the bathroom? It has peed but it has not taken a poop. It appears to be bound up. He has a bulge in the testicle area. I am going to call a vet asap but just thought I could see if I could get any answers or advice faster. Please help, I don’t want my puppy to die. PS. I have a friend that took one and has had it since it was only 3 weeks and hers is doing fine.
But mine, not so good.

I stopped at the pound yesterday searching for a dog to be-friend my animal loving 2yr old ! I fell in love with a little terrier cross pup !
I drove to my vets full of the joys !
The vet estimated he was four weeks old - Only 4 weeks ? he gave me some puppy nuts and a worming tablet — Poor fella was up all nite crying !
I was giving him a diluted milk solution but am going to pick up puppy milk today !!!
Help - will he be ok - should i demand he is given back to the mother for a few weeks ???
I
Thanks so much for the advice !!

I have him inside a box with an open side - loads of my sons blankets and a hot water bottle !
The food the vet gave me is a dry mix sort of thing - Ive been making it into a paste with diluted milk and he takes it from my hand and a small bit off the plate himself - But how do i know if he is getting enough !!!

Im really angry at the pound for not telling me how young he was - I am well used to dogs but I just didnt realise :(

Im afraid if he goes back to the pound they’ll just give him to the next person who walks in !! At least with me he’ll be garunteed lots of hugs and love !

I hope he wont grow up to have anger issues !!

Growing up, my father used to always take care of this and I never paid much attention. All I know is that my father now says, “Condo” and the dog runs to his cage like and he loves it. He even naps in there and doesn’t cry at all about going in there. What tips do you have for me to get my puppy to behave this way? Thanks

I want to get a dog really badly, and my mom gave me the ok, but she says she will only allow it outside the house. We plan to get a Labrador pup, and take it out for walks everyday. There is a park nearby our house. We don’t plan to keep him chained outside in our backyard, he can roam around freely in the backyard since it is fenced. But our backyard mainly only has dirt. ( of coarse we plan to get a dog house, food water bowl and some toys ) And we live in a dessert, so it can get very hot, and very cold allot of times, but my mom said she won’t allow him to be indoors.

What age should I start taking it out for walks ?

Whats the best way to keep it warm during the winter ?

How can I keep it from feeling lonely ( besides playing with it everyday)

How should I train a dog that is gonna be spending its time outdoors (since house breaking probably doesn’t apply to outdoor dogs) , but I’m hoping that if I train it good enough, my mom won’t mind if its indoors )
Do not answer if you are only gonna say “don’t have a dog if he will only be outdoors “

I’m looking to adopt/rescue a Yorkshire Terrier. It would be my first time owning a pet independently. I just had a few questions regaurding their care :I’d like to know what amount of time is safe to leave a Yorkshire Terrier by itself, the average cost of rescue/adoption, and the average monthly cost of owning such a pet. Between my roommate and I the puppy would be alone approximately 2.5-3 hours a day. I’d also like to know the approximately how many grooming trips a month I would need to take the dog to if I kept his/her hair relatively short. I was speaking to my mother about caring for a dog and she was concerned because I live in a flat instead of a house, do you believe that this would cause a problem? I’d just like to be 100% that this is an educated dissicion and one that is in the best interest of the dog. Thank you so much in advance.

ok my puppy has had a hard time growing up but now hes normal, hes 6 1/2 months, pitbull and is 35 lbs, i know its underweight but he has battled lots of diseases. he totally hates dry food and i literally force him to eat it, its sad wen he was a puppy he gave up on eating and wanted to die, and i literally had to shoot liquid food down his throat, now he eats but he doesnt like it and he will go a day without eating his puppy food, so wut is a tasty-fatty food that my dog can eat that will leave his stool solid, get him fat, and is healthy for him, he also has mange but i am taking care of that with mitaban, your help is greatly appreciated!!!

My nephew found a 3-month-old stray yesterday and knowing my affection for dogs, gave it to me. It was abandoned by its owner and was probably left to die, to have an accident or something. The problem is, it was DELIBERATELY blinded. I guess it was someone’s idea of a sick joke. It breaks my heart to see him bump into things. He’s very healthy and very active, but I can see he’s struggling. I don’t know what to do. I’m still yet to take him to the vet but I don’t think the prognosis is good. Please help.
I’ve since taken Sparky to the vet and it was confirmed that he was indeed deliberately blinded. Unfortunately, the vet was unable to tell me how it happened. Turns out that he’s only about 6 weeks old. He’s been given shots of antibiotics and vitamins, and I have to administer eye drops every 6 hours. I’ve decided to keep him and I wish with everything in me that I could shot whoever did this to him. This is my first time to encounter a blind dog and I appreciate all the advice being given to me here. Thanks a lot.

Is it too cold for him, i live in upstate new york and it was 30 degrees last night. Should we get him a sweater? Does he need a chew toy?

We went to look at a puppy to buy. It is a cross between a Maltese and a red poodle. The lady seemed nice enough; both the parents were nice dogs; THE HOUSE HOWEVER WAS A SMELLY NASTY MESS! it really seemed like they didnt take care of their house very well at all… there was piled up dishes; the counters were stacked with all kinds of mess; and the smell…..WE ALMOST WANT TO GET THE DOG OUT OF THE HOUSE BUT IT IS $650. My plan is to have her sign papers that agree to return our money or pay the vet bills if things are found after a full checkup. I feel that we could bring the dog up very well and it would soon forget about its former living conditions. What do you guys think?

There’s a Johnson & Johnson animal testing facility that is closing close to where I live. They have 40 puppies all needed to be rescued by the 15th of October or they’re going to put them down. I’d like to rescue and adopt one, but my question is with it being almost a year and a half - do you think these dogs would have had their shots and deworming? With them being testing animals (although they’ve never been tested on), I can’t see them getting the proper care baby puppies need!

Also, how are Beagles temeprament wise? I’ve never owned a dog before, but I like smaller dogs like these so I don’t really know what to expect. How much are we taking in maintaing a dog?

Any help is appreciated!!
Oh, and I’m not an idiot when it comes to animals - I’ve lived with dogs but have never owned one myself. That’s the purpose of this question, so to that clown that said I shouldn’t adopt just because I’m not an expert can go f**k himself.

I love all animals.
